Hospital paid millions for illegal kidneys

“South Africa’s largest hospital group has admitted it received millions of dollars for illegal kidney transplant operations performed at one of its facilities.  Durban’s St Augustine’s hospital, run by the private Netcare group, was handed a $US580,000 fine in Durban’s commercial crime court after a plea bargain agreement over the scandal.  More than 100 illegal kidney transplant operations were performed at the hospital between 2001 and 2003.”
