“SURVEILLANCE of the safety and effectiveness of medical devices in Australia is a failure and there needs to be much more monitoring to alert patients to the risks of joint replacements and other implants, the Consumers Health Forum says. The devices were implicated in nearly 1000 incident reports in the first half of this year, including reports of 43 component failures and 18 safety alerts, Therapeutic Goods Administration statistics show, but many patients were not aware of the TGA’s reporting scheme.”
