Qld parliamentary committee recommends sexual age of consent be standardised

“The committee recommends the introduction of the Health and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016 which standardises the age of consent for all sexual activity as well as changes the language in the criminal code to remove the word “sodomy” and replace it with “anal intercourse”. The committee found the legal disparity between anal sex and other sexual activity was particularly discriminatory to same-sex attracted young men and could inhibit their ability to receive advice on sexual health.”The panel noted that young people in same-sex relationships may feel compelled to withhold information about their sexual history from their health practitioner for fear of the possible legal consequences, whether for themselves or their partner,” the report said.”
